You have been seeing the work of the members of the Mandala Online Magazin editorial staff for over a year now in all the MOM issues.
So, how does our editorial work take place?
It begins with our establishing the time frame and the theme for the next issue of MOM. Up to the editorial deadline, we collect the articles and other contributions which are sent to us and what we write ourselves (unfortunately most of the contributions are still what we write ourselves, but we hope that we will soon hear more from all of you). The English texts are passed on to our translation team, so that you can read them in German. We also take care of summarizing the latest dates, seminar information and news for you. Since all of us do this work on the side, it can sometimes happen that we have to call one another often – which we don’t mind doing, that way we automatically keep in touch. And so we newly designate a member of the editorial staff for each MOM, who takes care of seeing that the cooperation with the other teams runs harmoniously.
And then, when all contributions have been collected, we hold our editorial conference – usually as a phone-conference, which has never gone for less than 2 hours. Although oftentimes battling tendencies have come up in the forefront when it comes to protecting one’s own creative expression or one’s opinion concerning journalistic freedom, our conferences are always harmonious and relaxed, extremely creative and fruitful. During the conference, we go through the setup and each individual text together, we fine-tune the texts, wording, and grammar, correct spelling errors which we notice (for this we have a separate team, which supports us with a professional eye) – and all this in order to ensure a readable, curiosity arousing and inspiring MOM for you. When we have agreed upon all contents (sometimes with hard fought-for compromises) and the grammatical and spelling corrections are completed, the MOM goes into the next stage of processing – to the Design Team, which now has the job of creating an individual and appealing layout. Part of this consists of the time-consuming search for appropriate photos in our Sambodha archive – we try to support the team with some of our own photos. When the design is finished and we all give the newest edition our nod of approval, the MOM is sent out by our Web- Administrator (who is always very exact and points out any remaining discrepancies – for which we are very grateful, for sometimes we are just too close to it all) – and all this in the hopes of once again having made many beautiful and inspiring moments possible for you all with our MOM.
At this point, we want to take the opportunity to invite you once again to send us your texts, poems or also feedbacks to:
that our MOM can become even more versatile and colorful!
The Three from the MOM Editorial Staff
We close with a small digression to the history of MOM:
…not too long ago, Premshallah and Sanjivan had the idea of a regular newsletter and all were excited about it. After this, the first editorial team came together in April 2006, consisting of Kimaya and Sanjivan. Amanté joined them a short time later, Sanjivan left due to time difficulties and Nalesha joined in – the editorial core team had formed, and was complemented a while ago with BrahmaniMa. Amanté has recently left the team - and we would like to thank him here for his active support and the love he invested in the editorial work -, but nevertheless we may continue to look forward to his inspiring contributions/articles. The MOM has gone through an unbelievable technical and graphic development in a very short time – from the initial provisional design in Word, to the first attempts as a programmed HTML-Mail, to Kesari’s papyrus design, and now to Aiyanna's and Jashan’s current design. The newsletter has also grown quickly in content, going from pure reporting to a versatile magazine. We are very grateful for the support as well as the creative ideas of all persons and teams who have helped to make all this possible.
We hope that you enjoy MOM as much as we, the editorial staff, do!
